Unfiltered discussions into all things Black and Dyslexic
The Black and Dyslexic Podcast hosted by Winifred A. Winston and LeDerick Horne offers an authentic and raw perspective into the challenges faced when advocating for yourself or your child with a learning disability. Black and underrepresented minorities don’t experience advocacy the same way as our White counterparents. Dyslexia is too often misdiagnosed, untreated, and under identified in our communities. Youth with untreated dyslexia are more likely than their non dyslexic peers to end up unemployed, underemployed or even incarcerated.
Purpose:
Tune in each week as Winifred, LeDerick and their guest share insights to help remove the stigma and raise awareness about dyslexia on topics ranging from why schools won’t “say dyslexia”, to federal prisons mandated to “screen and treat” inmates with dyslexia. Why is the government waiting until Black and brown folk are incarcerated before they screen and treat dyslexia? This show will also spotlight everyday dyslexics and celebrities who share their journey of winning over dyslexia and other learning differences.
Purpose:
- To remove the stigma in the Black and brown communities about dyslexia and other learning disabilities
